Openly gay fashion designer Jay McCarroll is best known for winning the first season of the Bravo reality series Project Runway. However, he also chose to turn down his prize, which included $100,000 and studying under the Banana Republic clothing chain to help develop his own fashion label. This was due to his objection to a clause in the contract, which stipulated that the Project Runway production company would permanently own 10% of every professional business venture he started.
